Alex Morgan Headlines Group of Stars Starting Orlando Women's Pro Soccer Team

Orlando took another big step Monday in becoming a destination city for soccer fans everywhere.  Their new women’s professional franchise, the Orlando Pride, is set to play in the NWSL in 2016 and scored some big names as their first player acquisitions.

Canadian international standout Kaylyn Kyle and fellow USWNT player Sarah Hagen joined U.S. women’s national team star Alex Morgan on the stage at The Abbey in downtown Orlando.  The trio will put Orlando on the map for the women’s game much like the signing of international superstar Kaka did for the men’s side.

Morgan has been described as the greatest female striker in the world.  She has 50 goals in 95 caps with the national team and was a member of this summer’s World Cup championship squad.

In 2012, she notched a season of over 20 goals and 20 assists with Team USA, also helping the team to win gold at the London Olympics.  Morgan was brought to Orlando via a blockbuster deal with the Portland Thorns.

Morgan’s Portland teammate Kyle is also heading cross-country as part of the trade.  She is a valuable midfielder for team Canada and has made over 100 appearances since her 2008 call-up.

With Kyle’s help, Canada advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2015 World Cup and won a bronze at the 2012 Olympics.  On the club side, she played with the Thorns last season after suiting up for the Boston Breakers and Houston Dash in 2014.

Hagen has briefly contributed to the national team and could be featured more in the coming years.  She spent the last two seasons with FC Kansas City, helping them to a NWSL championship in 2014.

Hagen also spent two years with prestigious FC Bayern Munich and scored 38 goals in 51 appearances.  The Pride acquired her rights from KC in a deal that included a swapping of draft picks.
