Pittsburgh Pirates Manager Clint Hurdle Speaks at ODU Baseball Dinner

On Friday night, Old Dominion kicked off the start of baseball season with their annual banquet.  They welcomed in one of the most successful managers in the game today as keynote speaker.

Pittsburgh Pirates manager Clint Hurdle addressed the crowd at the 39th edition of the banquet.  It was held starting at 6 p.m. at the Sheraton Norfolk Waterside Hotel.

Tickets cost $65 with a special event rate running $45 per person.  Hurdle has great ties to the Norfolk area as a former player and manager for the Tidewater Tides.

Hurdle has certainly gone on to great things after that.  Last season, he led the Pirates to 98 and an appearance in the National League Championship Series.

Since being named the manager in Pittsburgh in 2010, Hurdle has revitalized the franchise.  Pittsburgh has made three straight postseason appearances and in 2013 he was named Manager of the Year.

Hurdle also had some success after that, leading the Colorado Rockies to the World Series in 2007.  He had been a coach in the Colorado system since 1994 before being named manager in 2002.
