Football Legend Marcus Dupree Speaks at Tupelo Christian Prep Fundraiser

Marcus Dupree has a unique story to share about his football career. On Saturday, he was able to share some of the highs and lows as the featured speaker at the Tupelo Christian Preps athletics department fundraiser.

Tickets for the dinner were $50 for individuals and $350 for an eight-person table. Dupree is a native of Philadelphia, Mississippi and is one of the legendary high school athletes in the state's history.

Dupree had two seasons at Philadelphia High School where he rushed for over 2,000 yards. He rushed for 7,355 yards and 87 touchdowns, which set a new national high school record.

Dupree became one of the most recruited players in college football history and attended the University of Oklahoma. He rushed for 1,144 yards and 13 touchdowns as a freshman.

Dupree was a second-team All-American and first-team All-Big 8 Conference selection the first year. He left school abruptly as a sophomore, but did resurface in the USFL with the New Orleans Breakers.

Dupree also spent time in the NFL with the Los Angeles Rams, but various injuries derailed his chance to live up to his potential. His story was profiled by the ESPN 30 for 30 documentary, The Best That Never Was.
