Troy Murray

Troy Murray is a retired center who played 15 years in the NHL and currently serves as the Chicago Blackhawks radio analyst on WGN. Murray was originally selected in the third round of the 1980 NHL Entry Draft by the Blackhawks. He went on to play collegiately at the University of North Dakota, helping the Fighting Sioux win an NCAA title in 1982. Later that year, he made his NHL debut during the playoffs and scored a goal in his first game against the Minnesota North Stars. Murray had a highlight season in Chicago in 1985-86. That year, he scored 99 points and won the Frank J. Selke Trophy as the league's best defensive forward. Murray spent parts of 12 seasons with the Blackhawks, but also played for the Winnipeg Jets, Ottawa Senators, Pittsburgh Penguins and Colorado Avalanche. Some of his other career highlights include being named a captain by the Jets and winning a Stanley Cup in 1996 with the Avalanche. Murray retired in 1997 and went into broadcasting while also serving as a commodities trader on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange for seven years. He later transitioned to full-time broadcasting work, spending several years on the Blackhawks television team before crossing over to the radio side.
