About Tony Bennett
Tony Bennett built Virginia into an elite ACC basketball program.The Cavaliers success culminated with an NCAA Championship in 2019. They won the ACC regular-season title six times and Bennett is a four-time ACC Coach of the Year. He has also won the Henry Iba Award as the nation's top coach three times. UVA is the only team outside of the state of North Carolina since the founding of the conference in 1953 to get those consecutive titles.
Just like the turnaround at UVA, Bennett also injected life into the Washington State program in his first head coaching stop.The Cougars reached the NCAA Tournament twice and the 26 wins they had in each of those seasons is a school record.
Bennett's coaching career began as an assistant at Wisconsin before joining the Washington State staff.He was a two-time conference player of the year for his father at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.His jersey is retired by the school and he also went on to play three NBA seasons for the Charlotte Hornets.
