Steve Weatherford

Steve Weathford, born in 1982, is currently a punter for the New York Giants of the National Football League. Weighing in at a mere 108 pounds and standing only 5’8” his freshman year of high school, Weatherford’s determination to make a career out of football skyrocketed. After spending more time in the weight room than with his high school friends, Weatherford entered the Univeristy of Illinois at 6’3” and 225 pounds. A multi-talented athlete, he also played on the University of Illinois’ track team, where he placed third in the heptathlon at the 2005 Big Ten Indoor Track and Field Championships. In 2004, Sports Illustrated named Weatherford the Most Underrated Player in the Big Ten. Finishing his collegiate career with an average of 43. 6 yards per punt, he easily became the school’s all-time leader in career punting average, which made a name for himself in the 2006 NFL Draft. Weatherford was signed by the New Orleans Saints, in which he played for two seasons with, before moving on to the Kansas City Chiefs, Jacksonville Jaguars, New York Jets, and currently, the New York Giants. In 2010, he tied the record for the most punts inside the 20 in a season with 42, and Weatherford is only expected to break multiple punting records in the seasons to come.
