About Steve Byrnes
Currently part of the FOX Sports Family, Steve Byrnes hosts TOTALLY NASCAR and serves as a pit reporter for NASCAR on FOX’s inaugural year broadcasting NASCAR Sprint Cup Series events. Byrnes began his career in television after graduating from the University of Maryland in 1981 and working as a freelance weekend sports producer for notable teams such as the Baltimore Orioles and Washington Redskins. In the early days of his career, Byrnes also hosted Darrell Waltrip’s Racers on TNN in 1999, The History of Stock Car Racing on The History Channel, co-hosted Inside NASCAR on TNN, and produced and co-hosted Inside Winston Cup Racing on TNN in 1985. In addition, he served as play-by-play announcer for a single NFL game in 2006, featuring the Carolina Panthers and Minnesota Vikings. As a member of the FOX Sports Family, Byrnes got his foot in the door with NASCAR after he hosted a NASCAR newsmagazine with Ned Jarrett in the late 1980’s. Since, he has never looked back. Byrnes continues to produce and host NASCAR segments, among other programs, while also serving as a fill-in studio host and lap-by-lap announcer for NASCAR on Fox when needed.
