About Ruffin McNeil
Ruffin McNeill first showed his leadership abilities as a three year starter and two year captain for the East Carolina University Pirates Football Team. Following his college career, McNeill began a coaching career as graduate assistant for Clemson University. He was a position coach at several schools, including his alma mater, before receiving his first promotion to defensive coordinator for Appalachian State in 1993. In 2000 he accepted a job at Texas Tech as a positions coach and worked his way up the ranks until he was named interim Head Coach in 2009 following the firing of Mike Leach. McNeill led the Raiders to a victory over Michigan State in the 2009 Alamo Bowl but was let go by new coach Tommy Tuberville. In 2010, McNeill accepted the position as head coach for the East Carolina Pirates where he has been ever since. He has led the team to a 37-26 record in his 5 seasons, taking them to 4 bowl games in that time.
