About Roy Williams (1)
Roy Williams is a former NFL safety and University of Oklahoma legend. Playing for Sooners from 1998 to 2001 under coach Bob Stoops, he was a key defensive player on the 2000 BCS National Championship team, setting a school record for tackles for loss by a defensive back (12). In 2001, he won the Bronko Nagurski Trophy as the nation's top defender and the Jim Thorpe Award as the top defensive back, earning unanimous All-American honors and finishing seventh in Heisman voting. His iconic "Superman" play in the 2001 Red River Showdown, forcing a fumble against Texas, sealed a 14-3 win. Drafted eighth overall by the Dallas Cowboys in 2002, he played nine NFL seasons, earning five Pro Bowl selections. Williams was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2022.
