Ron Powlus

Ron Powlus was the epitome of Notre Dame football before he even signed a letter of intent to play at ND. As a high schooler, Powlus was one of the most highly recruited football players of all time. He was named Parade Magazine prep player of the year and USA Today’s offensive player of the year. At the time of signing his letter of intent to ND, numerous college analysts predicted he would win the Heisman Trophy twice at Notre Dame, which has only ever been done by one player. Powlus was a four year starter and two-time captain for the Irish, starting in 42 of 44 regular season games in his career. At the time of his graduation, Powlus had set almost every major offensive record for an Irish quarterback that held until Brady Quinn broke them. Powlus went undrafted into the NFL and never managed to see any action throughout his short career. In 2005, Powlus returned to his alma mater under Coach Charlie Weis and was the quarterbacks coach until 2009. He has since held the same role at the University of Akron and then reunited with Charlie Weis at the University of Kansas.
