About Ron Dayne
At 270 pounds coming out of high school, few people thought that Ron Dayne could play tailback at the collegiate level. Coach Bobby Alvarez was one of those few and recruited Dayne to play for the University of Wisconsin at tailback. Dayne went on to be a four-year starter at tailback and by the end of his college career he had broken Ricky Williams record for career rushing yards in NCAA D-1 with 6,397 yards in regular season play. In 1999 Dayne won his first of two consecutive Rose Bowl MVP honors as well as the Heisman Trophy and Big Ten Player of the Year. In 2013 he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame and remains one of only five players to rush for over 1,000 yards in all four years of their career. Dayne spent 7 seasons in the NFL, never reaching the 1,000 yard mark in that time. After retiring from the game in 2007 he had amassed only 3,722 yards as a running back.
