About Richard Ruffalo
When Richard Ruffalo was 32 years old he lost his eyesight. It led him to want to give up teaching, but with support he never lost his vision. As an athlete Ruffalo has been a winner of 4 titles in powerlifting, discus, shot put, and javelin. He has also set 9 world records, 15 national records, won 27 national titles, and won 14 gold medals in international competition. After his stint in athletic competition Richard has been a coach and teacher, where he has won the Outstanding Coach of the Year and Outstanding Teacher of the Year Awards both in the same year of 1995. Richard has also been selected as an inductee into the National Teachers Hall of Fame. Ruffalo now spends a lot of time speaking at schools, conventions and to assorted audiences including Fortune 500 companies where he delivers his powerful message of persistence in the pursuit of excellence.
