About Pierre Pilote
Pierre Pilote was born in Quebec, Canada and played his first organized hockey game at the age of 17. At the age of 20 he joined the St. Catharines Teepees as a defenseman in the OHA. After one season he joined the Buffalo Bisons in the AHL for five seasons and became one of the top defenseman in the league. He also added 39 goals and 129 assists in just over 280 games during that span. In 1955 he signed with the Chicago Blackhawks and would go on to play the next 14 seasons in the Windy City before retiring as a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1969. Throughout his career he was an outstanding defenseman, earning the Norris Trophy as the top defensive player in the league three times in 1963, 1964 and 1965 and finishing as the runner-up for the trophy three more times in 1962, 1966 and 1967. In 1961 he reached the peak of accomplishment in the league when he helped the Blackhawks to a Stanley Cup Championship. After his retirement he was honored by the Blackhawks organization with the retirement of his legendary No. 3 jersey in 2008. Two years later he was inducted into the Chicago Sports Hall of Fame.
