Philip Humber

Phillip Humber is the pride of Nacogdoches, Texas, and grew up with a passion for America’s oldest past time, baseball. After visiting the Chicago White Sox spring training facility at the age of 11 he set the goal of one day being a big league player. As a youngster he played in the Panola County Dixie League and won three state championships. He then headed to Carthage High School and posted a 13-1 record with a 0.90 ERA as a senior in route to leading his team to a State Championship appearance. After earning Texas High School Class 4A Player of the Year honors he was selected in the 29th round of the 2001 MLB Draft by the New York Yankees. Humber however, chose instead to pursue a college baseball career at Rice University. While at Rice he posted a 35-8 career record to go along with a 2.80 ERA and 422 strikeouts in 354 innings while leading the Owls to two College World Series appearances and earning All-American honors in all three years. In the 2004 MLB Draft he was selected with the No. 1 overall pick by the New York Mets and went on to make his dream come true in 2006 when he earned a call to the big leagues. From 2006 to 2013 he played for the Mets, Minnesota Twins, Kansas City Royals, Chicago White Sox and Houston Astros. In 2012 he tossed a perfect game for the White Sox, essentially coming full-circle from his days as an 11-year old at the White Sox spring training facility.
