About Mike Greenwell
Mike Greenwell played 12 seasons win the big leagues with the Boston Red Sox from 1985 to 1996 after being selected in the third round of the 1982 MLB Draft. During his first season in Boston he hit .328 with 19 homeruns and 31 doubles in route to finishing fourth in the American League Rookie of the Year voting. The following season he earned the first of two consecutive All-Star selections and a Silver Slugger Award after hitting .325 with 22 homeruns, and 119 runs batted in. During his career with the Red Sox he was one of the most consistent players in the league, hitting for a career .303 average and launching 130 career homeruns. In 1997 he left the big leagues and signed a $2.5 million contract with the Hanshin Tigers in the Japanese Pro League. Greenwell would go on to serve as a hitting coach in the Cincinnati Red organization in 2001 and then pursue a racing career in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in 2006.
