Michael Pineda

Michael Pineda is one of the top starting pitchers for the New York Yankees. The Seattle Mariners originally signed him as an international free agent in 2005. Pineda broke onto the scene with the Mariners in 2011 and became one of the most promising young starters in baseball. He was a two-time Minor League Pitcher of the Year in the organization when he came up to the big leagues. Baseball America ranked him as the 19th best prospect in baseball. Pineda blew through major league competition in his first month, going 4-1 with a 2.01 ERA on the way to being named American League Rookie of the Month. After going 8-6 with a 3.03 ERA and 113 strikeouts in 113 innings over the first half of the season, Pineda was named an AL All-Star. He finished his rookie campaign 9-10 with a 3.73 ERA. Seattle traded him to the Yankees after his debut season. While he suffered injuries early in his New York career, he has rebounded to become a key part of the rotation.
