About Mario Cristobal
Mario Cristobal is the head football coach at his alma mater, the University of Miami. Cristobal came back home after a successful four-year run at Oregon, where he won two Pac-12 championships. He was promoted to the head role with the Ducks after a season with the program as the co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach. From 2013-16, he served as the assistant head coach and offensive line coach for the Alabama Crimson Tide. Cristobal has always been known as one of college football's top recruiters and he was named 247Sports National Recruiter of the Year in 2015. He came to Tuscaloosa after six seasons as the head coach at Florida International University.
At FIU, he became the first Cuban-American head coach in Division 1 football history. Under Cristobal, the Golden Panthers experienced success, winning the Sun Belt and their bowl game in 2010. The following season, he led them to an 8-5 record and bowl appearance. Cristobal cut his coaching teeth as an assistant at Miami and Rutgers.He was a first-team All-Big East pick as an offensive tackle for the Canes and was on the 1989 and 1991 national title teams.Cristobal had a brief pro-playing career, signing with the Denver Broncos out of college and suiting up for two seasons with NFL Europe’s Amsterdam Admirals. The Miami, Florida native attended Columbus High School.
