About Maria Sharapova
Maria Sharapova was one of the best female tennis players of her era. Sharapova spent 21 weeks in her career ranked number one in the world. She boasts five career Grand Slam singles titles and is one of just ten women with a career Grand Slam. With at least one singles title each year from 2003 to 2015, only three women in the history of the sport have put together a longer streak of consistency than Sharapova. Overall, she captured 36 singles titles and three doubles titles. Sharapova also shined bright on the international stage, winning a silver medal for Russia in singles at the 2012 Olympics. In 2005, the 18-year-old reached number one in the world for the first time. The previous year, she won WTA Player of the Year and Most Improved Player of the Year. During her career, Sharapova was regarded as a top athlete endorser and started her own brand Sugarpova. After an amazing run at the top of her game, Sharapova announced her retirement from competition in 2020.
