Kyle Petty

Kyle Petty is a retired American stock car racing driver. Petty began racing as a young boy and at 18 years old, he made his major-league stock car debut. Petty’s first race was the 1979 Daytona ARCA 200 where he drove his mother’s 1978 Dodge Magnum racecar; he won that race. After his race, he was at the time, the youngest driver to win a major-league stock car race. Later that season, Petty made his Winston Cup Series debut driving the same car numbered 42. In 1983, Petty switched his number to 7 when he picked up funding from 7-Eleven. During 1985, Petty took his number and sponsorship to Wood Brothers Racing where he had a then career-high of seven top-fives and his first top-ten points finish. In 1997, Petty formed his own team, PE2 Motorsports, and sported the #44 Hot Wheels Pontiac Grand Prix. In 1999, Petty was commentating for ESPN as a guest to commentate as a NASCAR Driver for NASCAR Busch Series races. Petty took several races off to work as a color commentator for TNT’s Nextel Cup coverage. Petty is also active in many charitable causes.
