Katie Ledecky Biography

Katie Ledecky is already one of the most accomplished American swimmers of all-time. She stole the show at the 2016 Olympics, winning five medals, four of them gold. Ledecky has set world records in the 400, 800 and 1500-meter freestyle. While she cemented her legacy in Rio, her first Olympics in 2012 was truly inspiring. Ledecky, then just 15, unexpectedly took home gold in the 800-meter free. Over her remarkable career, she has been named Swimming World Female World Swimmer of the Year a record five times. Ledecky has also been the United States Olympic Committee Female Athlete of the Year three times. In 2017, the Associated Press designated her Female Athlete of the Year. Ledecky also had a remarkable college run at Stanford University. As a freshman, she set 12 NCAA and nine American records en route to leading the Cardinal to their first team title in two decades. Ledecky was also the first freshman in 35 years to win the Honda Cup. During her sophomore campaign, Stanford won another championship and she set five more college or U.S. records. Ledecky turned pro in 2018, with her eyes firmly set on the 2020 Olympics.
