Karl Hobbs

Karl Hobbs played his college basketball as a point guard at the University of Connecticut from 1981 to 1984. Prior to starring for the Huskies he helped Cambridge Rindge and Latin School to a Massachusetts High School State Championship in 1989-90 and was named the Massachusetts Schoolboy Player of the Year. After high school he headed to UConn and became the school’s all-time assists leader with 534 career assists. Currently that total ranks fourth in school history. After earning his degree he signed with the Rhode Island Gulls in the USBL. In 1987 he turned his focus to coaching and joined the Boston University coaching staff as an assistant. He remained in that position until rejoining the UConn family as an assistant coach. After eight years at his alma mater he was hired as the head coach at the University of Washington. Over the next ten years he led his teams to 166 wins, three 20-win seasons and three NCAA Tournament appearances from 2004 to 2007, and two Atlantic Ten Conference regular seasons championships. In 2011 he returned to UConn as an assistant, and has since helped the Huskies to an NCAA National Championship in 2014.
