About Jose Torres
Jose Torres is one of the best professional boxers in history. He got his start in boxing shortly after he enlisted in the United States Army in 1953 at the age of 17. During his time in the Army he won the Army and Inter-Service championships and went on to win a silver medal at the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games in the light middleweight division. After serving honorably in the Army he won the 1958 National AAU Middleweight Championship and 1958 New York Golden Gloves Open Championship. The following year he turned pro and went on to win the WBA And WBC Light Heavyweight titles in 1965. He’d go on to win that title three more times over the next three years and finish with a career 41-3-1 overall record with 24 career knockouts. After his career he became a successful author, contributing articles and several books in the areas of sports and history. In 1997 he took his rightful place in the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
