About Joe Dooley
Joe Dooley has kept the momentum rolling for "Dunk City" since being named the head coach at Florida Gulf Coast University. In each of his first three seasons heading the Eagles, they won at least 20 games. In 2016, FGCUwasback in the NCAA Tournament for the second time in school history and up to the same tricks. They again won a tournament game, defeating Fairleigh Dickinson in the First Four round to advance to play top overall seed North Carolina. In 2013-14, the Eagles won the Atlantic Sun Conference regular season with a 14-4 mark during Dooley's first season. Prior to taking the job in Fort Myers, he was a top assistant under Bill Self at Kansas for over a decade. With the Jayhawks, Dooley was on the bench for the team's run to the 2008 NCAA Championship. He has been a head coach once before, heading up the East Carolina program from 1995-1999 and going 57-52. He had previously been an assistant for the Pirates and following his run in Greenville, he had stints as an assistant at New Mexico and Wyoming. After being a four-year letterwinner at George Washington, Dooley's coaching career began at South Carolina.
