About Jim Marshall
One of the NFL’s true ironmen, Jim Marshall was known for his role on the famed Minnesota Vikings “Purple People Eaters” defensive line of the 1970s. Marshall owned the records upon his retirement for most consecutive games played and most consecutive starts. He played a season in the Canadian Football League and one with the Cleveland Browns before embarking on his storied Vikings career. The two-time Pro Bowler played in all four Super Bowls that Minnesota appeared in during the time period. His #70 is retired in the Vikings Ring of Honor and he is considered one of the 50 Greatest Vikings of all-time. Marshall is credited with 127 sacks, second on the franchise’s career list. There is one glaring mistake he is known for in his career. In a game against the San Francisco 49ers, he picked up a fumble and ran it 66 yards in the wrong direction for a 49ers safety. The play has gained infamy through playback on numerous highlight packages. Marshall grew up in Columbus, Ohio and attended college at Ohio State.
