About Jim Delany
Jim Delany is the fifth commissioner of the Big Ten Conference. Since joining the Big Ten in 1989, he has strengthened the league while becoming one of the most powerful people in college sports. Delany had expanded the platform of the conference and added three member intitutions in his tenure. The conference sponsors 28 different sports, second in the country to the Ivy League. One of the most successful initiatives Delany has led was the creation of the Big Ten Network in 2007. He has continued to negotiate record media rights deals for the conference. Under Delany's watch, the Big Ten has won national titles in 28 different sports. Prior to joining the conference, he was commissioner of the Ohio Valley Conference. Delany began a career in college sports with the NCAA, serving as an enforcement representative from 1975-79. He is a graduate of both the University of North Carolina and UNC's School of Law. While on campus, Delany was a member of the varsity basketball team and went to two Final Fours with the Tar Heels. In 2012, he received UNC's Distinguished Alumni Award.
