Jerry West Biography

Jerry West played his entire 14-year NBA career with the Los Angeles Lakers from 1960 to 1974. During that time he achieved legendary status, earning 14 NBA AllStar selections, 12 All-NBA selections, five All-NBA Defensive Team nods and the 1969 NBA MVP Award. He also led the Lakers to an NBA title in 1972, led the league in scoring in 197 and assists in 1972, and finished his career with 25,192 points, 5,366 rebounds and 6,238 assists. His notoriety would eventually lead to his likeness being used as the NBA logo that we all know today. For his performance on the court he was named to both the NBA 35th and 50th Anniversary Teams and had his legendary No. 44 jersey retired by the Lakers. After retiring as a player he became an executive in the Lakers organization and led the franchise to six NBA titles while also earning two NBA Executive of the Year awards in 1995 and 2004. One of the highlights of his career was when he led Team USA to a gold medal at the 1960 Rome Olympic Games. West was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1980.
