About Jerry Colangelo
Jerry Colangelo played his college basketball at the University of Kansas and Unviersity of Illinois after starring at Bloom Township High School. During his playing career at Illinois he earned All-Big Ten honors and served as the captain of his team as a senior. He graduated with a degree in physical education in 1962 and was later inducted into the Illinois Basketball Hall of Fame. After earning his degree he joined the Chicago Bulls organization in 1962 as a marketing director, scout and assistant to the President of the team before being hired as the general manager of the expansion Phoenix Suns in 1968, making him the youngest GM in pro sports at the time. He eventually became the President of the Suns and then took over ownership of the team. He’d go on to own the Phoenix Mercury in the WNBA, Arizona Diamondbacks in the MLB, Arizona Sandsharsks in the Continental Indoor Soccer League and the Arizona Rattlers in the Arena Football League. In 2005 he was named director of USA Basketball, and currently serves as the chairman of the National Italian American Assocaition.
