About Jenny Cavnar
Jenny Cavnar is a trailblazing American sports broadcaster and the first female primary play-by-play announcer in Major League Baseball history. Cavnar is a fifth-generation Coloradoan who grew up with a passion for the diamond, as her father, Steve Cavnar, is a Colorado High School Baseball Hall of Fame coach. She attended Colorado State University and earned dual business administration and communication studies degrees.
Her career began with an internship at Denver’s KUSA 9News, where she then went on to deliver coverage at ESPN, CBS College Sports, and Fox Sports West. From 2007 to 2011, she covered the San Diego Padres as a reporter and anchor. In 2012, she joined the Colorado Rockies, serving many roles as a pregame/postgame host, reporter, and backup play-by-play announcer for 12 years. In 2018, she became the first woman in 25 years to call a televised MLB game.
In 2024, she joined the Oakland Athletics in a groundbreaking role for NBC Sports California as their primary play-by-play announcer alongside former MLB pitcher Dallas Braden.
In addition to baseball, she calls men’s and women’s college basketball for FS1 and Pac-12 Network. Cavnar is a five-time Emmy Award Winner and the first woman to win the National Sports Media Association’s Colorado Sportscaster of the Year in 2021.
