About Jack Capuano
Jack Capuano is a hockey coach and former player who is was the head coach of the New York Islanders. Capuano was born in 1966 in Rhode Island and went on to play college hockey for the University of Maine. From there, he entered the 1984 NHL Draft and spent three professional seasons in the NHL throughout the late 1980’s and early ‘90’s. Making appearances as a defenseman for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Vancouver Canucks and Boston Bruins, Capuano concluded his playing career in 1992 and moved on to launch his coaching career as an assistant for the Tallahassee Tiger Sharks of the ECHL. Since, Capuano has been the head coach of Pee Dee Pride in the ECHL, an assistant for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, a New York Islander affiliate, and an assistant for the Islanders. Capuano was named to the head coaching position for the Islanders in 2010 and led the team to their first playoff spot in six years in 2013. The team also made back-to-back postseason appearances under his watch in 2015 and 2016. Capuano was let go as head coach in 2017 and is currently an associate coach for the Florida Panthers.
