About Gil de Ferran
Gil de Ferran finished out his 23-year driving career in 2003 with a boom, winning the 87th running of the Indianapolis 500 and then capping it all off with a win in the last race of the season. As one of the most unique and sophisticated drivers in auto racing history, de Farren was one of the most popular and respected drivers on the racing circuit since beginning his career racing karts at age 14. He eventually rose to stardom in Indy Car racing, earning Rookie of the Year honors in 1995 and winning back-to-back championships in 2000 and 2001 after joining the Penske racing team. In 2000 de Ferran earned the title as “The Fastest Man in the World” when he set the closed course speed record by posting an incredible 241.428 mph during a lap at California Speedway. Since his retirement he’s enjoyed spending time with his family and has remained close to racing, often attending Formula One races around the world, particularly in the United States and his native Brazil.
