George Springer

George Springer is a star outfielder for the Toronto Blue Jays. Springer had a banner seven-year tenure with the Houston Astros to start his career. He was a three-time All-Star in Houston and a two-time Silver Slugger Award winner. In 2017, the Astros defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers in seven games in the World Series and Springer was named MVP of the Fall Classic.

in 2014, Springer burst onto the scene as a rookie with 20 homers and 56 RBI. Prior to that season, Baseball America named him the 18th best prospect in baseball. The Astros selected Springer out of UConn with the 11th overall pick of the 2011 MLB Draft. He was the highest Huskie ever taken. Springer was the Big East Player of the Year and a first-team All-American as a junior. In 2009, he was both Big East Freshman of the Year and a Baseball America Freshman All-American. UConn made their first NCAA Tournament since 1994 in 2010. In 2011, Springer led them back to the tournament and into the Super Regionals. The Connecticut native came back to his home state to host a baseball clinic in the aftermath of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.
