About Gary Anderson
Gary Anderson is a former placekicker in the NFL. Growing up, Anderson dreamed of becoming a professional soccer player in Europe just like his father. After moving to the United States from South Africa, Anderson was given a couple footballs to kick. Anderson chose to attend Syracuse University as they promised him he would be able to play on their soccer team as well as play football. He played soccer with Syracuse as a freshman and sophomore before he devoted himself to football as a junior and senior. The Buffalo Bills selected Anderson in the 7th round as the 171st overall pick in the 1982 NFL Draft, but he was cut before the season started. A few days later, Anderson signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers as a free agent. Anderson spent 12 seasons with the Steelers before he played with the Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers, Minnesota Vikings and the Tennessee Titans. During the 1998 season, Anderson became the first NFL kicker to have a perfect regular season when he made every field goal and PAT during the regular season.
