Fred Williamson Biography

Fred Williamson is a retired professional defensive back who played eight seasons in both the NFL and the AFL. Williamson got his start in football as a defensive back at Northwestern, competing for the team for four seasons. Following his graduation, Williamson went undrafted in the 1960 NFL Draft, eventually ending up with the NFL’s Pittsburgh Steelers for the 1960 season. In 1961, Williamson signed with the AFL’s Oakland Raiders, playing with the team for four seasons making three AFL All Star teams from 1961-1963, becoming one of the league’s star players. In 1965, Williamson signed with the Kansas City Chiefs, and would finish his career after three seasons with the team, officially hanging up his cleats in 1967. After retiring, Williamson turned his focus to an acting career, and has experienced great success, appearing in various movies and television shows since he got his start in 1970.
