About Frankie Luvu
Frankie Luvu is an American Samoan NFL linebacker for the Washington Commanders. Hailing from Tafuna, American Samoa, he moved to the U.S. in 2013, where he played college football at Washington State University, recording 147 tackles and 7.5 sacks over four seasons. Undrafted in 2018, Luvu signed with the New York Jets, where he spent three seasons (2018–2020), primarily as a backup and special teams player, amassing 59 tackles and six sacks in 40 games.
Joining the Carolina Panthers in 2021, Luvu emerged as a key defender, posting a breakout 2022 season with 111 tackles, 19 tackles for loss (second in the NFL), and seven sacks. In 2023, he set a career-high with 125 tackles and 5.5 sacks and earned NFC Defensive Player of the Week honors for a 12-tackle, one-sack performance against Houston. Signing a three-year, $36 million contract with the Commanders in March 2024, Luvu had a stellar first season, recording 99 tackles, a career-high 8.0 sacks, one interception, and two fumble recoveries in 17 games, earning second-team All-Pro honors.
