About Eric Davis
At 21 years old, Eric Davis made his first appearance as a centerfielder for the Cincinnati Reds. With comparisons to Willie Mays, Davis showed extraordinary speed and a rare complimenting power at the plate. He broke out in 1986 with 27 home runs and 80 stolen bases, one of only two players in MLB history in the 20/80 Club. Davis was one of the MLB's most exciting superstars through his first six seasons, making 2 All-Star teams, 3 Golden Gloves, and a World Series ring in 1990. Davis struggled through a series of injuries and in 1994 retired from the game. In 1996, Davis made a comeback to the MLB and showed signs of his previous self, earning NL Comeback Player of the Year honors. The following season, Davis was diagnosed with colon cancer and to everyone's surprise, he returned in 1998 again to have one of the best seasons of his career, hitting .327 with 28 homers. Davis finally retired in 2001 with a career average of .269 with 282 home runs and had earned numerous awards for his ability to fight through injuries and comeback to play the game he loved.
