Doug Flutie Biography

Doug Flutie is a former professional quarterback who spent time with the NFL, the CFL, and the USFL over his 21 year career. Before he turned professional, Flutie rose to prominence as the starting quarterback at Boston College from 1981 to 1984. In four seasons with the team, Flutie threw for 10,579 yards and 67 touchdowns, with his best season coming in 1984 when he won the Maxwell Award, the Davey O’Brien, Walter Camp Award, and the Heisman Trophy. In arguably one of the most memorable moments in college football history, Flutie completed a “Hail Mary” at the last second against Miami, solidifying him as one of the most exciting players at the time. Following his graduation, Flutie would play for a variety of professional teams, getting his start with the USFL’s New Jersey Generals in 1985. His best moments would come during his time in the CFL between 1990 and 1997, winning three Grey Cups, Three Grey Cup MVPs, six CFL MVPs, and many more awards with the BC Lions, Calgary Stampede, and the Toronto Argonauts. Flutie would then go on to finish his career in the NFL, spending seven years with the Bills, Chargers, and Patriots. After his retirement, Flutie was inducted into both the College Football Hall of Fame and the Canadian Football Hall of Fame, earning his spot in sports history.
