His name is synonymous with NFL defensive dominance.  When fans hear the name, Dick Butkus, they think of a linebacker whose talent was matched only by his tenacity.  In nine seasons with the Chicago Bears he intimidated opponents with bone jarring hits and a savvy that allowed him to be a part of nearly every play.  With 22 lifetime interceptions and an incredible 25 fumble recoveries it was as if he was everywhere at the same time, always finding a way to make an impact on the game.  Although his career was tragically cut short due to a knee injury in 1973 he has still gone down as the best linebacker in the history of the game.  His eight Pro-Bowl and All-Pro selections and two NFL Defensive Player of the Year Awards are evidence of his contribution to both the Bears and the game.  For those contributions he was inducted into both the College Football and Pro Football Hall of Fame and honored by being named to the NFL 75th Anniversary All-Time Team.
