About Dan Monson
Dan Monson is a collegiate basketball coach who currently serves as head coach at Long Beach State University. Prior to his time as a coach, Monson played collegiate football at Idaho University as a wide receiver before suffering a career ending knee injury. Following his graduation from Idaho, Monson pursued a career in coaching basketball, initially serving as an assistant at UAB in 1986. After two seasons at UAB, Monson was hired as an assistant at Gonzaga, serving in this role for nine seasons before being promoted to the head coaching position in 1997. In two years at the helm, Monson led Gonzaga to a 52-17 overall record, leaving the team in 1999 to become head coach at the University of Minnesota. In eight seasons as coach, Monson led the Golden Gophers to a 118-106 record, failing to win a conference title and only reaching the NCAA tournament once. At the start of the 2007 season, Monson was fired, eventually winding up as head coach at Long Beach State. In eight seasons at LBSU, Monson has gone 119-108, winning three conference championships.
