Conchita Martinez

Conchita Martinez, born in Monzon, Huesca, Spain, is a well-established professional tennis player. She currently holds the record as being the only Spanish player to have won the women’s singles title at Wimbledon, which she did in 1994. Martinez turned professional at the young age of 16 and attained notable breakthroughs just a year later, clinching her first title at Tampa in 1988 with many to follow. Throughout her career, Martinez has competed in the Olympic Games in Barcelona, Atlanta, and Athens and has earned two silver and one bronze medal. 1995 was one of Martinez’s best years, as she was a semifinalst at all four Grand Slam tournaments and obtained her career-high singles ranking that year of number 2 in the world. In addition to earning her most prestigious title at Wimbledon, Martinez was also the singles runner-up at both the 1998 Austalian Open and the 2000 French Open. To date, she has an outstanding singles career record of 739-297 and a doubles record that does not fall too far behind with 414-232.
