About Chuck Amato
Chuck Amato is currently the defensive coordinator at the University of Akron. He has spent nearly five decades in coaching. Amato originally got into college football coaching at his alma mater, NC State. He rose from the ranks of a graduate assistant to defensive coordinator of the Wolfpack. After a two-year stint at Arizona, Amato began an 18-year run as a top assistant for Bobby Bowden at Florida State. For 14 years, he served as assistant head coach. Amato was a part of a staff that helped guide the Seminoles to eight straight Atlantic Coast Conference titles from 1992-99. He got his first opportunity as a head coach back at NC State in 2000. In seven seasons, Amato's teams compiled a 4-1 bowl record. His best season came in 2002, when NC State went 11-3, won the Gator Bowl and finished ranked as high as 11th in the country. After leaving the Wolfpack in 2006, Amato returned to FSU to serve as executive associate head coach and linebackers coach from 2007-09. He has been the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator at Akron since 2012.
