About Butch Jones
Butch Jones is a native of Saugatuck, Michigan and got his start in college coaching after a successful collegiate playing career at Ferris State from 1987 to 1989. In 1990 he joined the Rutgers coaching staff as a graduate assistant and then headed to Wilkes University after earning his graduate degree. In 1995 he returned to his alma mater as their new Offensive Coordinator and led them to being ranked in the top three nationally in offense from 1995 to 1997. From 1998 to 2004 he served as an assistant coach and offensive coordinator at Central Michigan University before heading to West Virginia in 2005. In 2007 he returned to Central Michigan as their head coach and led them to two Mid-American Conference Championships in three years from 2007 to 2009. After the 2009 season he was hired as the new head coach at the University of Cincinnati. From 2010 to 2012 he led the Bearcats to two Big East Conference Championships while also winning 23 games during that span.In 2013 the University of Tennessee brought Jones over to the SEC and he recorded two nine-win seasons for the Vols.
