Brett Lawrie Biography

Brett Lawrie is a former standout major leaguer whose Canadian roots made him a national hero. Lawrie had a great amateur career, playing his high school career with the Langley Blaze of the British Columbia Baseball League, playing well enough to be drafted in the first round of the 2008 MLB Draft by Milwaukee. Lawrie played two seasons in the Brewers’ organization, posting impressive numbers and eventually being considered one of their top prospects.

In 2010, Lawrie was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays, and he made his MLB debut one year later in a game against the Baltimore Orioles. In a shortened first season, Lawrie hit .293 with nine home runs and 25 RBI. This performance was good enough for Lawrie to be named to the Blue Jays’ 2012 roster. In just over two seasons with the Blue Jays, Lawrie hit .265 with 43 home runs and 157 RBI, establishing him as one of the best power hitters in the AL East. In November of 2014, the Blue Jays traded Lawrie to the Oakland Athletics in a move that brought them Josh Donaldson in return. He finished his career with the Chicago White Sox in 2016.
