About Bob Lanier
Bob Lanier played in the NBA for 14 seasons with the Detroit Pistons and Milwaukee Bucks from 1970 to 1984. Lanier joined the Pistons in 1970 out of St. Bonaventure, where he starred as a center from 1967 to 1970. During his time at St. Bonaventure he earned All-American honors in 1968 and 1970 and led his team to the NCAA Final Four in 1970. Upon signing a pro contract with the Pistons he earned NBA All-Rookie First Team honors during his first season in 1971 and would go on to become one of the premier scorers of his era. During 14 NBA seasons he scored 19,248 points for an average of 20.1 points per game. He also dominated in the paint, bringing in 9,698 rebounds for a total of 10.1 rebounds per game. He is one of the rare players that averaged a double double over the course of his entire career. St. Bonaventure, the Detroit Pistons and the Milwaukee Bucks have retired Lanier’s jersey and he also been inducted into both the College Basketball Hall of Fame and Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
