About Billy Gillispie
Billy Gillispie started his coaching career while still in college as a graduate assistant for the basketball team at Southwest Texas State University. After graduating Billy decided that he needed to build his coaching resume and began coaching at the local high school level where he ended up being nominated for the TABC Coach of the Year Award for his performance. In 2002 Billy got his big break and became the head coach of the basketball team at UTEP. In his second season, the Miners won 24 games and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. Gillispie went on to Texas A&M, where he put together four consecutive top-25 recruiting classes and three straight 20 win seasons for the first time in school history. He was also named Big 12 Coach of the Year twice. After his success in College Station, Gillispie was hired to take over one of the most prestigious programs in college basketball, the Kentucky Wildcats. UK had a 12-4 record in SEC play his first season en route to him being recognized as co-SEC Coach of the Year. Gillispie spent two years with the Wildcats and one season at Texas Tech. He is currently the head coach and athletic director at Ranger College.
