Ben Crenshaw

Ben Crenshaw was born in Austin, Texas and sharpened his skills on the links at the University of Texas.  While playing for the Longhorns he won three NCAA National Championships and became one of the greatest collegiate golfers in history.  In 1973 he turned pro and won his first ever tournament on the PGA Tour, capturing the San Antonio Texas Open with an outstanding 14 under par performance.  He went on to win 19 tournaments on the PGA Tour over the next 22 years, including two wins at the Masters Tournament in 1984 and 1995.  During that span he also finished third at the 1975 U.S. Open and as the runner-up at the 1978 and 1979 Open Championship and 1979 PGA Championship.  His numerous honors include earning the Haskins Award in 1971, 1972 and 1973 as the nation’s top collegiate golfer, the Bob Jones Award in 1991, the Old Tom Morris Award in 1997 and the Payne Stewart Award in 2001.  Crenshaw’s decorated career was honored in 2002 when he was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame.
