About Austin Jackson
Austin Jackson is one of baseball’s most exciting outfielders. Jackson came up with the Detroit Tigers and finished second in the 2010 American League Rookie of the Year. He is also well remembered for a diving catch that rookie season to preserve Armando Galarraga’s perfect game in the ninth that was foiled by a blown call later that inning. Jackson has led the AL in triples twice and is valued for his supreme center field defense. In 2012, he was the leadoff hitter for a Tigers team that made the World Series. Before he reached the big leagues, Jackson was traded from the New York Yankees in a deal that netted the Yanks All-Star Curtis Granderson. He was named the top prospect in the Yankees organization in 2009. Even as a youngster, Baseball America took notice, naming Jackson the best 12 and 15-year-old prospect in the country. At Billy Ryan High School in Denton, Texas, he was a top rated point guard in basketball in addition to his baseball prowess.
