Angelique Widjaja Biography

Angelique Widjaja is a former tennis player who won the Junior Championships at Wimbledon in 2001. Widjaja climbed to number 55 in the world for singles and number 15 in the world for doubles during her career. She won two WTA singles titles and two WTA doubles titles. When Widjaja won her first singles event at 17, she was the lowest ranked player to ever win a WTA tournament. She was also only the player in tour history to win her first event. Widjaja competed for Indonesia five times in the Fed Cup at the 2004 Olympics. As a singles player, she entered in Grand Slam events five times. At one time in her career, Widjaja had wins over former world number one players Dinara Safina and Jelena Jankovic. During her career, she was one of the most well known athletes in Indonesia. She began player tennis at the age of four.
