About Alina Kabayeva
Alina Kabayeva is one of the most celebrated gymnasts in Russian history. She has two Olympic medals, 14 world championship medals, and 25 European championship medals. She was one of six athletes chosen to carry the Olympic torch during the Opening Ceremonies of the 2014 Sochi Winter Games. Kabayeva was the youngest rhythmic gymnast to win the European Championships and the first to perform the backscale pivot. She won an all-around bronze in her Olympic debut in Sydney in 2000 and gold in Athens in 2004. Kabayeva is one of three rhythmic gymnasts to win all five grand slam titles. Following her athletic career, she has become an influential figure in Russia. From 2007 to 2014 she represented the United Russia party as a State Duma deputy. Kabayeva currently serves as the chairwoman on the board of the directors of the National Media Group.
