Jen Pawol Biography

Jen Pawol made history as the first woman to umpire a regular-season Major League Baseball (MLB) game during a Marlins-Braves series on August 9-10, 2025, at Truist Park. Pawol, the seventh woman to umpire in professional baseball, joined MLB’s call-up list in 2024, filling in for full-time umpires. Her journey began in 2016 in the Gulf Coast League after MiLB Umpire Training Academy, reaching Triple-A in 2023, where she was the first woman in 34 years at that level. A former athlete, Pawol excelled in softball at Hofstra University and played for USA Baseball’s women’s team in 2001. Previously an art teacher with an M.F.A., she umpired NCAA softball before transitioning to baseball.
