Hal Gill Biography

Hal Gill is a retired NHL defenseman, Stanley Cup Champion, and Nashville Predators broadcaster who had an illustrious playing career over 16 NHL seasons. Drafted 207th overall in the eighth round by the Boston Bruins in 1993, Gill went to Providence College, winning the 1996 Hockey East championship. He debuted with Boston in 1997, later suiting up for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Pittsburgh Penguins, Montreal Canadiens, Nashville Predators, and Philadelphia Flyers. Gill's career highlight was capturing the 2009 Stanley Cup with Pittsburgh, where his imposing 6’8” frame neutralized offenses during their quest for the Stanley Cup. Traded to Montreal in 2009, he anchored their defense en route to the 2010 Eastern Conference Finals. Retiring in 2015 with 20 goals and 139 points in 1,124 games, Gill transitioned to management, serving as player development manager for the Florida Panthers until 2023. He broadcasts as a radio color commentator for the Nashville Predators.
